Zachary Borovay is an award-winning media/projection designer and creative director whose work pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling for live and immersive entertainment worldwide. Renowned for blending cutting-edge technology with emotionally resonant design, his projects engage, surprise, and delight audiences across Broadway, global touring productions, theme parks, museums and architectural installations.
His Broadway credits include the long-running hit Rock of Ages—with productions spanning the West End, national and international tours, Las Vegas, Australia, and cruise lines—along with Evita, Elf, Xanadu, Ann, Lombardi, A Catered Affair, and Waiting for Godot & No Man’s Land starring Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Beyond the stage, his work has powered iconic spectacles such as the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, the multimedia circus Voyage de la Vie in Singapore, Peepshow in Las Vegas, and the Hispanic Heritage Awards on PBS. He has also contributed to several exhibits at the Smithsonian Institution.
Zachary’s creative reach extends deeply into themed entertainment and branded experiences, with media designs for Disneyland, Epcot, Disney Cruise Line, Universal Studios Hollywood, Royal Caribbean, NCL and Holland America and major global brands including Fenty, Sephora, IWC, and the Tribeca Film Festival. As a trusted consultant, he has collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering, Carnegie Hall and The Joshua Light Show, helping shape the future of live entertainment design.
A recognized authority in entertainment technology, Zachary serves as Live Design/LDI’s Content Advisor and was instrumental in establishing projection design as an official category within United Scenic Artists Local 829. He has advised leading technology manufacturers—including Disguise, Dataton, Green Hippo, Barco, Christie, Panasonic, and Apple—on the development of next-generation media systems and workflows.
Equally committed to education and mentorship, Zachary has taught and lectured at Yale School of Drama, CalArts, NYU, Emerson College, SUNY Purchase, and other major institutions, sharing his expertise with the next generation of designers.
In addition to his visual work, Zachary is a formally trained musician who studied jazz bass at Berklee College of Music. He has performed professionally, including with the house band for Rock of Ages in Las Vegas and aboard Norwegian Cruise Line, and has been a member of the International Society of Bassists for over three decades.
